University of Rhode Island Distinguished Achievement Awards
The University of Rhode Island has established awards to honor those individuals or corporations who personify its tradition of excellence in professional achievement, leadership contributions, and/or community service, thereby bringing distinction to themselves and to the University of Rhode Island.
Each year, the University of Rhode Island Distinguished Achievement Awards will recognize and honor four to six distinguished alumni and/or friends of the University who embody its tradition of excellence in professional achievement, leadership contributions, and/or community service.
Award recipients will be selected by a committee composed of representatives from URI’s colleges, the Office of the President, the Office of the Provost, the Division of University Advancement, the Department of Athletics, the Alumni Association, and the graduate and undergraduate student body.
The inaugural University of Rhode Island Distinguished Achievement Awards ceremony was held in October 2006. Nominations for the 2007 URI Distinguished Achievement Awards are due by January 19, 2007. The ceremony will be held on October 13, 2007.
Note: Faculty, Staff, Students, and Honorary Degree recipients are not eligible to receive a University of Rhode Island Distinguished Achievement Award.
Alumni Association Ram Award
The Ram Award recognizes an individual, whether an alumnus or not, who has unselfishly dedicated his/her efforts toward the betterment of the Alumni Association and/or the University as a whole, for a minimum of 25 years.
The purpose of the University of Rhode Island Alumni Association, an interdependent organization of the University, is to foster lifelong, mutually beneficial relationships among its current and future alumni and the University through programs and services that inform, involve, and invest them as committed partners of the University, its mission and traditions. The recipient of the Ram Award should embody this mission and that of the University of Rhode Island.
While the committee selecting the award recipients is representative of the University community, you may be in a unique position to know alumni who deserve this honor but who are unknown to committee members. Nominations for the 2007 Ram Award are due by May 31, 2007. Nominations received after this date will be held for consideration the following year. The Ram Award will be presented during a special ceremony to be announced at a later date.
