Fine arts at the URI Fine Arts CenterFans of the arts — from studio music to arts to theatre—will find compelling reasons to visit the University’s Fine Arts Center this month and throughout the year. Here are a few of the coming attractions: Great Performances In conjunction with the Dept. of Music’s Jazz and World Music Festival, the University’s Great Performances Series brings the soulful Venezuelan vocals and music of Irene Farrera and Venezuela Viva! on Friday, April 5, 8 pm at the Fine Arts Center Recital Hall. Accompanied by seven Venezuelan musicians, Farrera weaves her silky voice through verses of caressing tenderness, urgency and hope. Paying homage her Venezuelan childhood and drawing on the rhythms of Brazil and Cuba, she uses her soul-grabbing voice to captivate and energize the audience. Gracing the Galleries “Annual Juried Student Show.” Open to all students ever to have enrolled in an Art Department studio course, this very popular annual exhibition in all media is juried annually by an outside, invited expert. A first solo exhibition for the artist, New York photographer Robert Lobe. Photography Gallery, through May 10. Gallery Talk, Thursday, April 4, 4 p.m. “Collage Paintings” by Gary Richman. Art Professor Richman’s abstract collage paintings are densely layered complex compositions inspired by landscape and architectural motifs he has encountered in travels across the U.S. Corridor Gallery, through May 19. Art Gallery programs are free and open to the public. Will Theatre. Directed by Assistant Professor Bryna Wortman, the play runs Thursday through Saturday April 18-20, Wednesday through Saturday 24-27 at 8 p.m., and Sunday, April 21 at 5 p.m. Performances will be held in the Robert E.
