Other Spring Highlights

Spring Into Motion, April 6. The University of Rhode Island’s Physical Therapy Program will hold its 12th annual Spring Into Motion 5-mile run/3.1-mile walk Saturday, April 6. Registration begins at 8 a.m. at Keaney Gym, with the race starting at 10. Last year’s race attracted more than 300 runners and walkers. Funds raised by the event are used to finance the graduate research projects being conducted by URI Physical Therapy students. For more information, 874-4066.

Community Clean Sweep, April 7. Twenty different University student organizations, area neighborhood associations and URI-community coalitions are sponsoring a URI-Narragansett Neighborhood Clean Up on Sunday April 7 at 11 AM at Bonnet Shores, Eastward Look, and Point Judith. To participate, become a sponsor, or for more information, contact Lorrie Miller in the Office of Student Life at 874-2109 or lorriem@uri.edu.

Visualizations 2002, April 15-17. See the latest and greatest from URI’s budding filmmakers at the 4th Annual College of Arts&Sciences Film and Video Festival. The festival begins on April 15 with a screening of all entries and ends with an awards ceremony on the evening of April 17, at which time the best of each category will be shown and the winner of the “Best of Festival” will be announced. Animator Tom Gasek of Out of Hand Animation is the featured guest speaker during the closing ceremony in the Chafee Social Science Center, Room 271 at 7:30 p.m. Major funding for Visualizations 2002 is made possible through the generosity of Fred Joyal ‘79. Wall of Hope project, April 15-19: Members of the University community are invited to participate in the National Conference for Community and Justice’s Wall of Hope. On April 15-19, the Feinstein Center for Service Learning at URI will hold community-wide tile painting sessions at sites around the Kingston campus. On the one-year anniversary of the tragedy — September 11, 2002 — 10,000 tiles painted by people throughout the state will be unveiled as a permanent display at a location to be announced. A $10 donation to the NCCJ is requested for each tile.

Students hit the runways in Kingston, April 16. Members of URI’s Fashion Merchandising Society will present their latest original fashion collections for the “Urban Jumble” show on Wednesday, April 16 at 8 p.m. in the Memorial Union Ballroom. For more information, call 874-4574.
