UNDER CONSTRUCTION:

The new Coastal Institute building on the Kingston Campus, the second part of the University's three-part effort to enhance its global influence in marine and environmental research, is now under construction. The new 50,000 square-foot, three-story building is being built on Greenhouse Road, behind the Biological Sciences Center. The new facility will become the home for the Departments of Environmental and Resource Economics and Natural Resource Science, providing office and laboratory facilities devoted to research, service, and instruction regarding marine and environmental issues. The facility will also feature a state-of-the-art environmental policy simulation laboratory. The third component of the Coastal Institute project involves a 10,000 square-foot $2 million USDA-funded aquaculture laboratory that is being built on the Bay Campus. Both projects are expected to be completed next year. The cost for both facilities is $10.7, with funds provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Additional funds for technology also will be provided by donors.
