University research makes headlinesFrom “The Physics of Baseballs” to a “Whale avoidance system” to “Sharpened Hurricane Predictions,” research at the University of Rhode Island has been making headlines across the globe, as well as throughout the region.
As faculty, researchers, and students make advancements in technology and new discoveries in science, health, and the environment, coverage has been generated through contacts made with newspaper, magazine, broadcast, and Web-based journalists via the print, internet, and email distribution of news materials from the URI Department of Communications/News Bureau.
For example, URI research publicized by the department has muscled its way into national magazines such as Natural History which reported on research of mussel-bound crabs; stirred up flights of fancy in Natural New England with a report on a student’s discovery of a threat to the butterfly population; and created a buzz on CNN and Discovery Channel broadcasts and Internet outlets with stories on URI scientists hunting mosquitoes to track the West Nile Virus.
To be ‘in the know’ about such URI news before it hits the print, digital, or broadcast media outlets, visit the Communications Department’s News web site at www.news.uri.edu.
