Smokeout honor roll

The American Cancer Society recently honored University of Rhode Island President Robert L. Carothers for his leadership in working with the RI Department of Health and the New England Division of the American Cancer Society to call for a smoke free campus. Dean of Students Fran Cohen (left), who was instrumental in structuring the transition and implementing the new policy, received the “Silver Anniversary Honor Roll” award on Carothers’ behalf during ceremonies in Washington in November. URI Cancer Prevention Research Center Director James O. Prochaska, also received an award for his national and international efforts to help people change smoking and other high-risk behaviors through his innovative research and programs.
