Board of Governors welcomes six new members

The Rhode Island Board of Governors for Higher Education recently welcomed six new members.

Kenneth Aurecchia is an active and experienced labor representative, currently serving as the business manager of Local 51 in East Providence. He is also vice president of R.I. Building Trades and serves on the executive board of the R.I. AFL-CIO, and on the board of Blue Cross/ Blue Shield of Rhode Island, and the Institute of Labor Studies.

Miriam Coleman is a public service executive with extensive experience in work force development issues. A graduate of Brown University, she has served as assistant director for planning and development for the R.I. Department of Employment and Training and as a trust officer for the Rhode Island Hospital Trust National Bank. Coleman served previously on the Board of Governors for Higher Education from 1986-1990.

Daniel Issa, legislative appointee to the board, was elected to the R.I. Senate in 1986. He chairs the senate education committee and is a member of the government oversight committee. Issa is a graduate of the Community College of Rhode Island and Rhode Island College and serves as director of marketing and corporate relations at Open MRI of New England, Inc.

Pierre La Perriere has a background in political science and business management and currently serves as director of business services for Toray Plastics, Inc., where he has worked since 1993.

Solomon Solomon earned his master’s in business education in 1970 and taught at the Community College of Rhode Island from 1972 until his retirement in June 2002. He served as chairman of the business administration department at CCRI from 1994 to 2002. Solomon is also the president and treasurer of Solomon Realty Co.

Anne Szostak has worked for 29 years at Fleet and is now the executive vice president and corporate director of Human Resources and Diversity for FleetBoston Financial Corp. as well as chairman and CEO of Fleet - Rhode Island. She is a trustee of Women and Infants’ Hospital and the Institute of Contemporary Art.
