Alumni Fund raises record amount

A record-breaking year of fundraising has come to a close, as the URI Alumni Fund raised a total of $1.05 million during the 2001-2002 fiscal year, surpassing the previous year’s total by $23,000.

“The results are especially encouraging given the recent economic climate,” said Maureen Coleman, director of the Annual Fund. “We are excited to see the long-term growth trend continue.”

Contributions from URI graduates to the Alumni Fund make up the largest component of the University’s Annual Fund. These donations fund student scholarships, faculty development, alumni programs, the library, and other campus programs.

The most significant factor in this year’s Alumni Fund success was a six percent increase in the number of donors, up from 8,296 to 8,783. “Growth in donor participation is one of the most difficult challenges for any annual giving program,” Coleman said. “We’re particularly happy that so many URI alumni were committed to giving back to the University this year.”
