Recent Events

The Department of Public Affairs and Programming produces events that showcase our many outstanding programs, faculty, alumni, and facilities. We welcome you to participate in the variety of cultural, athletic, recreational, and academic offerings.



The College of Pharmacy Building Groundbreaking Ceremony was held a groundbreaking ceremony on October 5, 2009, for the new $70 million College of Pharmacy building, the second major part of the URI Health and Life Sciences District.

 


A Big Thinkers: Shaping the Future event, featuring President David M. Dooley, was held on September 24, 2009, in Boston at the Seaport Boston Hotel. Big Thinkers Series events are to be held in Boston, Washington, D.C., and New York in Fall 2009. See video of Boston Big Thinkers event.

 


[Columns]Hellenic Studies Center Paideia Groundbreaking was held on Tuesday, June 30, 2009. The University of Rhode Island will have a building of classical Greek architecture with an open air amphitheater on the Kingston Campus, thanks to the efforts of the Rhode Island chapter of Paideia, a non-profit Greek-American organization dedicated to advancing learning about classical and modern Hellenic culture and language.


[Harrington]Big Thinkers: Stamford, Connecticut was held on Thursday,June 25, featured Richard J. Harrington, former president and CEO of the Thomson Corporation and a 1973 College of Business Administration graduate of URI. The University of Rhode Island Big Thinkers Series began in Fall 2008.


[Hillel]A groundbreaking for the Norman M. Fain Hillel Center at the University of Rhode Island was held on Thursday, June 18, 2009.


A reception for the University's newly appointed president, Dr. David M. Dooley, and Rev. Lynn Baker-Dooley was held at the University Club on June 2, 2009.


[Pell Building]The Ocean Science and Exploration Center and Pell Marine Science Library held a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house on June 1, 2009, at the University of Rhode Island Narragansett Bay Campus.


The Big Thinkers Boston event was held on February 26, 2009. The evening featured Nina Saberi '82, Managing General Partner, Castile Ventures.


[Building]The Center for Biotechnology and Life Sciences ribbon cutting and open house was held on January 26, 2009. The event included exhibits and tours of the new 140,000 square-foot building.


The Fall 2008 URI Big Thinkers Series hosted events in Los Angeles on October 30, New York City on November 3, Washington D.C. on November 13, and Miami on December 4, featuring prominent University of Rhode Island alumni.


[Lilacs] The Kathleen M. Mallon Outreach Center naming and dedication ceremony was held on November 6 at the URI Cooperative Extension Education Center and Botanical Gardens.


[Homeland Security Logo] The offficial launch of the Department of Homeland Security Center for Excellence in Explosives Detection, Mitigation, and Response at the University of Rhode Island was held on October 15.


[Lippitt]A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly renovated Lippitt Hall was held on October 8.
