Called the “hearthstone” of the campus, over the past 50 years the Memorial Union has been a place to eat, to enjoy a movie, take in a concert, attend a dance, hear a famous poet, work at the student newspaper or campus radio station, or serve on the URI Student Senate. Before 1954, the Union was housed in Quonset huts. The present building was dedicated on November 13, 1954, with additions completed in 1964 and 1993. Re-dedicated in November 2004, today the Memorial Union continues to be the social center of the University Previous | Top | Next | |
