Charitable Gift AnnunitiesSixty-plus years since graduating, Kenneth ’43 and Janet Keegan Munroe ’46 share an enthusiasm for URI that remains as fresh and heartfelt as ever. They are regulars at Southwest Florida Gators Alumni Chapter events and rarely miss an event on campus in the summer months. Ken and Janet’s dedication to URI was recognized with an Alumni Service Award in 1983 and a Ram Award in 1992 as well as induction into the College of Business Administration Hall of Fame in 2001. In addition, Ken is a long-time trustee of the URI Foundation and an honorary member of the Boat Committee. The Munroes’ involvement with the University has been matched by their financial support, which encompasses the Annual Fund, athletics, and building campaigns—most notably Ballentine Hall, where the Media Room bears their name. Recently, in reviewing their estate plans, Ken and Janet resolved to perpetuate their support for the University and add another dimension to their legacy. They also foresaw the desirability of receiving a fixed and guaranteed income stream for themselves. These two visions led to a simple solution: a charitable gift annuity whose remainder will fund a named endowment in the URI Foundation. “We liked the idea of a steady income stream for both our lifetimes—much more than those dollars had been earning for us—and a sizable tax deduction as well. Just as important to us is knowing that we will provide the nucleus funding, after our lifetimes, for an endowed scholarship in our names for students in the College of Business Administration.” If you are interested in learning more about charitable gift annuities, or other gift planning opportunities that may enable you to make a larger gift than you ever thought possible, we invite you to contact us in the Office of Planned Giving.
