URIALUM.COM DISCONTINUED The instability of the fledgling.com marketplace recently hit close to home: Several major providers of university-affiliated start pages have terminated their agreements with colleges and universities across the country. Our provider was one of them. As a result, we regret to announce that the University of Rhode Island Alumni Association start page, urialum.com, ceased operation April 30, 2001. We were delighted that so many alumni and friends registered with urialum.com. We saw this as a great opportunity to create an interactive electronic community and to enhance revenue for the URI Alumni Association through Web-based shopping. We were also delighted to be able to offer alumni "affinity" email, daily news from URI, The Providence Journal, and The New York Times, and to provide useful features like weather, maps, and stock quotes. Of course, we will continue to maintain and develop our own alumni Web site at advance.uri.edu. If you were a subscriber to urialum.com, we are especially interested in which of the start page features you found most useful. If you have not yet responded to our survey of urialum.com users, we ask that you take a moment and go to http://advance.uri.edu/alumni/forms/startpagesurvey. Your feedback will be a real help to us as we move forward in building our own electronic community. And again, we regret any inconvenience the discontinuation of urialum.com may have caused you. THE SEARCH IS ON! This spring we instituted a new Search feature. You can activate a search on our homepage and access our Search Tips from any page on the site or by going to http://advance.uri.edu/search. QUAD ANGLES ONLINE If you prefer to do your reading online, don't forget to take a look at this issue of QUAD ANGLES at advance.uri.edu/quadangles. The latest issues of the magazine are now available in HTML format, which makes for easier access on the Web. URI offers several email communications, and alumni are welcome to subscribe. You can sign up for any of them by sending your name, class year, address, phone, and email address to the following: ALUMNI DIGESTA biweekly summary of news and events of interest to alumni, including updates on Alumni Weekend, Homecoming, and alumni achievements.
