From the President
I am pleased to present this Visual Standards Guide, which will help the University of Rhode Island present a positive, unified visual image to the community.
The purpose of this guide is to present a comprehensive set of standards that will effectively build maximum recognition and awareness of the University of Rhode Island.
The success of these guidelines depends on our faithful adherence to them. I ask your cooperation in upholding these standards so that the University of Rhode Island speaks with a clear and consistent voice.

From the Vice President for
University Advancement
As part of the University of Rhode Islands ten-year reaccreditation, completed in 1997, the Division for University Advancement conducted a survey of the various print, radio, television, and Web communications produced by the University.
While findings showed a base of consistency within the University, they also indicated the need for a long-term institutional commitment to centralized marketing, including the need for more consistent use of logos, stationery, and school colors.
This first-ever Visual Standards Guide includes important new standards for stationery, typography, print and Web publications, television, signage, commercial use for merchandising, and the use of alternate and secondary logos.
Central to this guide is the creation of a University of Rhode Island wordmark, a unifying graphic device that should allow the Universitys individual campuses, colleges, departments, and programs to project a more consistent image.
As a landmark building on the Kingston Campus, Green Hall remains central to the Universitys image, as does the Ram logo for Athletics. The URI blues have been clearly defined.
As the first of its kind, this guide will likely grow and change over time. We welcome your feedback as we work together to project a more unified, positive image of the University of Rhode Island.
Should you have any questions or need assistance, please contact the Director of Publications at 401-874-2075. Questions regarding Athletics logos should be directed to the Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations at 401-874-2401.
